"The Colonist" article quotes that Daniel McGinnis "found that the first growth of wood had been cut down, and that another was springing up to supply its place. And some old stumps of oak trees that had been chopped down were visible." This has been used by some authors to conclude that the Money Pit and related workings had to have been constructed within about 50 years of 1795. See Crooker's, "Oak Island Gold", Pgs. 197 to 199.
